Microsoft Teams – RTT

Share this:

đź’¬ Did you know Microsoft Teams supports Real-Time Text (RTT)? Let’s talk about it for #TechTipTuesday.

RTT is a powerful accessibility feature that allows text to be transmitted as it’s typed, character-by-character—making communication more inclusive for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech disabilities.

In Microsoft Teams, RTT can be enabled during calls and meetings, especially in Teams Phone scenarios. This not only supports accessibility compliance (like Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA) but also enhances communication in high-stakes moments like emergency calls.

Whether you’re building an inclusive workplace or supporting regulated industries, RTT helps everyone stay connected—in real time. Simply select the ellipses (…) in the Teams menu bar and under “Language and settings” select “Turn on RTT”.

Additionally, for those of you who appreciate live captions as much as I do, you’ll have the option to turn on or off the live captions to decide whether you want to see both or just the RTT (as pictured below).

Accessibility isn’t just a feature. It’s a responsibility.
